From The Editor

We are looking forward to seeing you in April at the annual ISRI Convention which this year will be in Los Angeles, CA. We will again have our spectacular booth, featuring all of our latest hardware and software offerings and our unique Scrap Dragon sculptures.

If you are coming to the ISRI convention this year, please look for us in booth 115 and plan to join us for our annual 'Thank You' cocktail party.

We have received many requests for another Scrap Dragon University training workshop. We are looking at sites and expect to have a session scheduled for late May or early June.

ISRI 2011 Convention

Last year, our booth won 'Best in Show' at the ISRI convention in San Diego, and this year we are going all out to win again. Please come see us in booth 115 as we show off all of our latest and greatest products in our 'virtual' scrap yard.

Of course we will have our famous Dragon sculptures made entirely from scrap metal and our Scrap Dragon hats and t-shirts to give away.

Even if you aren't in the market for anything new, stop by and say hello. We'd love to meet you face to face and listen to your ideas for making Scrap Dragon even better.

Scrap Dragon 'Thank You' party

Join us for our annual customer appreciation party at the ISRI convention. The party will be on Thursday April 7, 2011 at the ESPN Zone at L.A. Live, just a short walk from the hotels. The party is from 5:30 to 7:30 and dress is casual. You will have plenty of time for your dinner plans afterward. No RSVP is necessary and you are welcome to bring a guest. If others in your company are attening the convention, please share this invitation with them. Food and drinks are on us!

Transact Payment Systems acquires new headquarters building

In December, Transact Payment Systems moved into a new 24,000 square foot building located at 7100 30th Ave. North, St Petersburg, Florida 33710. The new facility will function as the corporate headquarters and includes state of the art offices, warehouse, data center and testing facilities.

1099 Update

We have received the following information from ISRI regarding the 1099 law which is scheduled to take effect in 2012:

"Late last week, the House of Representatives passed HR-4, the Small Business Paperwork Mandate Elimination Act of 2011 that would repeal the burdensome IRS reporting requirement to report all transactions of $600 or more during a calendar year that were included in the healthcare law passed last year. HR-4 was introduced by Congressman Dan Lundgren (R-CA) who has been a steady proponent of repeal since it was enacted into law. Mr. Lungren's bill is a simple repeal of the provision that does not contain any budget "pay-fors" or ways to pay for the approximately $19B the 1099 reporting provision was expected to raise. The legislation will now go to the Senate for consideration. However, the Senate already passed their own repeal bill that did provide a funding source. Consequently, the two Chambers will have to either accept one version or the other or negotiate a compromise. Otherwise, there will not be a bill that can be sent to the President for his signature. In earlier Leadership Updates, I described this scenario where the House would pass a "clean" repeal bill while the Senate would instead provide funding for the lost revenue. Accordingly, we expect now that HR-4 has passed and both Houses have made their respective political statements, the leaders will begin working towards some sort of compromise."

Scanned Signed Scale Tickets

We are seeing an increase in enforcement by the EPA of the disclaimer that can be printed at the bottom of your scale tickets. While we can't put the disclaimer and responses on the Electronic Signature pad, we have another way of saving this information in JPEGger so that it can be retrieved with the other ticket images. The process requires a Fujitsu SnapScan page scanner and the latest version of JPEGger that supports PDF documents. The custom scale ticket with the appropriate disclaimer is printed and signed by the customer. The scale ticket(s) are scanned and saved by the cashier when the ticket(s) are paid. A new 'Save Scans' button on the payment screen allows the process to flow smoothly without too many extra steps.

Toughbook Closeout - 40% off

We still have a few Panasonic Toughbook Wireless Monitors available. These cool little handheld devices are discontinued and our supply is dwindling. Much smaller and lighter than the wireless computers that have replaced them, they work well with Scrap Dragon and are durable enough for use in a scrap yard. Unfortunately, Panasonic has phased them out and in fact will not be releasing a driver for use with the Windows 7 operating system. Consequently, we are closing out our remaining supply of new units at 40% off the $2,000 list price. We also have a few lightly used 'demo' units available for 50% off. For more info, download the Specification Sheet or the Purchasing Power brochure. Only available while supplies last. Sorry, no returns.

We have some customers testing the Apple Ipad as an alternative wireless solution. We are using the Wyse Pocket Cloud RDP app and a hard shell case from Ivyskin. While the Ipad is lightweight, it has no hand strap, is not as rugged as the Toughbook, is not weatherproof and requires a bare finger touch (no gloves or stylus). The RDP is easy to set up, but when the remote is attached, the host screen is unavailable. The same Wyse Pocket Cloud RDP app is available for the droid phones. Yes, you can run Scrap Dragon on your Evo!
