Article ID: 46
Last updated: 14 Jan, 2016

When attempting to scan a driver’s license using the ScanShell 800, the system generates the error “ScanW.dll is not registered”. This does not occur when logged into Windows as an administrator.

This error is caused by insufficient permissions on the files in the folder c:\program files\card scanning solutions\SDK.

To resolve the problem:

  1. Login to Windows as an administrator.
  2. Using Windows Explorer, browse to the folder c:\program files\card scanning solutions\SDK.
  3. Right click the folder, left click properties, left click the Security Tab. Set the permissions to Everyone, Full Control.
  4. Select all of the files in this folder.
  5. From the menu on the top, click files, click properties, click the Security Tab. Set the permissions to Everyone, Full Control.
